VideoMS Getting Started Guide
Welcome to VideoMS
Thank you for testing VideoMS, an amazing Video Management System optimized for lecture recording and iTunes U publishing.
With just 2x10 steps you'll explore the potential of an automated production system. You'll best start by testing the web application, which is the main administration interface. Subsequently you can test the recorder software, which is used to capture dual source recordings directly in the lecture hall.
Note that you can find a full documentation in the "Documentation" section. Enjoy!
VideoMS Administration Interface
- Login with your credential you've received by e-mail.
- Go to "My Playlists". You'll find an already created demo playlist.
- Create a new playlist by clicking on the "+" icon. Give it a meaningful name and follow the wizard. Default settings will just be fine for a test. The playlist will be your starting point for the next operations.
- Upload a movie by clicking on the "arrow up" icon and follow the instructions. Note: this is a drag&drop interface. Choose a short movie for your tests.
- The movie will need to be imported into the system. You can check out the progress in the "XGrid Status" page, which can be accessed from the navigation on the left-hand side of this page.
- Once the movie is imported a "pen" icon will appear. Click on it to open the web-based video editor.
- Edit scenes, add chapters and fill metadata. Click on "Save" once you're finished.
- Click on "Prepare" to create export formats. Choose export formats and an action you want to perform once the export formats are ready. Click on "Prepare".
- As soon as each deliverable format is ready, the corresponding icon on the right-hand side of the clip description is enabled.
- Feel free to check all other available options by clicking on the various icons.
VideoDR Pro
Note: for the following steps you'll need an Apple Computer with Mac OS X Lion (10.7). In a real production environment you'll not record from your computer, but from an external VGA source using a VGA2USB frame grabber.
- Download VideoDR Recorder software from the "Downloads" section.
- Install the application by dragging it to your application folder and launch the it.
- Choose a video source (optional), a audio source (mandatory) and a display (optional).
- Click on the red button to start a recording.
- Click on the "Stop" button to stop a recording. Note: minimal recording time is 10s.
- Read the alert message carefully. Confirm that you want to end the recording by hitting "Yes".
- Upload your recording immediately or at a later time to the server.
- You'll be prompted to enter your credentials and choose a playlist.
- The recording will be imported and will be ready to edit as described in the previous section.
- Feel free to explore the options available in the "VideoDR Pro -> Preferences..." menu.
